Armed Security Officers

Pursuant to Virginia statute 9.1-146, a security guard registered to provide service to a business has the authority to make an arrest on the business property only when an offense is occurring in the officer’s presence or in the presence of the party that hired the security officer. A security officer also has legal power to make an arrest if they have probable cause to believe that the suspect has been shoplifting or has willfully concealed goods. If you resisted arrest, you may be charged with a class 1 misdemeanor if the court decides that the arresting security officer was within the course and scope of the law. Resisting arrest is a class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia, defined by Virginia statute 18.2-479.1, and is punishable itself by up to 12 months in jail.

OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS & CAPABILITIES

Armed, licensed and insured to include
First Aid & CPR/AED Certified , Narcan (Naloxone) trained and certified
Prior military, law enforcement or 3 to 5 years of security experience
Advanced handgun trained & qualified ( Shotgun and Patrol Rifle options)
Less lethal trained and certified in OC and Baton (Taser X2 trained officer option)
Mandatory internal trainings and continuing education to include de-escalation, use of force, laws, and report writing
Clearly-marked uniforms worn at all times (Class A , Class B, or Tactical options- Suit Tie and Business Casual to match clients attire for PPS Agents)
All employees have passed a state and federal background checks & drug screening

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prevent theft, violence, and property disturbance
Respond to and investigate all alarms and security disturbances/concerns reported by residents via duty phone
Report any safety or security issues to persons or governing body of client’s choice
Property & vehicle checks upon request for residents on vacation or otherwise absent
Welfare checks upon request
Render first aid as needed and contact advanced medical aid as needed
